  • This year at the Goodwood Revival, one of the key features and highlights of the event was the bringing together of all 6 of the original Daytona Coupe's.

Given the garages used at the 73MM for the Le Mans cars, and dressed in period features, the cars were quite a spectacle in the early morning light.

Whilst I find the Daytona Coupe a little bit of an odd ball shape with that severe kamm tail, I understand the significance of bringing the cars together for the first time like this.

This particular car was number 5 in the production run (S/N CSX2602) and was raced at Daytona, Sebring, Monza, Spa, Nürburgring and LeMans in 1965, with a list of drivers the includes Phil Hill, Jack Sears and John Whitmore to name but three of them.

When this car raced at Le Mans in 1965, it ran with the Swiss red and white colours of the Scuderia Filipinetti team. The car blew its engine after 10 hours of the 24, and was subsequently repainted back to the Shelby colours and retired from racing.
